Alpha Beta Gamma Mission

Alpha Beta Gamma is an International Business Honor Society established by business professors in 1970 to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year business and professional college students. The society is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and has initiated 65,500 members.

The ABG Preamble states that academic excellence among students enrolled in Business and Professional curricula at two-year degree granting institutions may be nurtured, that opportunity may be provided for leadership training and an intellectual climate for ideas and ideals be fostered; and that scholars may be imbued with desire for continuing education, we dedicate ourselves as members of Alpha Beta Gamma. Among us, membership is a privilege earned by qualifications, honor, and service. In conduct of our activities truth shall be our quest, diligence our staff, and achievement our purpose.

Requirements for Membership

Alpha Beta Gamma membership is open to all students who qualify and have an existing chapter at his/her school; the requirements to join are:

  • To be eligible for membership in ABG, a student must be enrolled in Business or Professional curriculum at a two-year degree granting institution.
  • The student must have completed 12 credit hours, with at least a 3.0 GPA and ranking within the top 35% of the class.
  • Students pay a one-time membership fee of $50.00.

LCHC Delta Sigma Chapter

The Delta Sigma chapter dedicated to the Lee College Huntsville Center was granted in 2014. The Delta Sigma chapter represents the only chapter dedicated exclusively to a correctional education program comprised of male and female incarcerated students.

Chapter advisers for the Delta Sigma chapter include founding adviser, Paul Allen, along with Judy Baker and David Jackson. ABG chapter advisers are an integral part of the chapter life and are a tremendous resource for the chapter officers and members. Chapter advisers serve as the communication link between the National Office and the local chapter.

Each year the Delta Sigma chapter raises funds for ABG membership scholarships with a silent auction held in conjunction with the Annual Texas Correctional Education Conference. Annual proceeds for 2025 exceeded $1,200.

A total of 55 new ABG student initiates were inducted into the Delta Sigma chapter in 2025. Further, the Delta Sigma chapter has inducted over 540 new members since its inception and has received numerous national chapter awards. Paul Allen is a recipient of the John Christensen Award and has served on the Alpha Beta Gamma Executive Council since 2015.

The Delta Sigma Chapter of the Huntsville Center represents the only incarcerated college degree program affiliated with Alpha Beta Gamma, and has received numerous Alpha Beta Gamma national awards, including the recent 2026 national chapter award for "Excellence in Campus Recruitment."
