Program Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes
Title Description
First Aid Skills Students will learn how to stay calm and take action during medical emergencies by practicing life-saving skills like CPR and using an AED. You will also learn the proper way to treat basic injuries and sudden illnesses, ensuring you follow the professional safety rules necessary to assist others in a fitness or community setting.
Empirical and Quantitative Skills Manipulation and analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions
Social Responsibility Students will demonstrate foundational social responsibility by identifying the cultural and socioeconomic factors that influence community health disparities and physical activity levels.
To be determined This is a placeholder for course goals that have not been mapped to program learning outcomes
Content Knowledge Recall facts, explain principles and theories, apply factual knowledge, principles and theories to solve problems in a specific discipline (note: content knowledge related to a core learning outcome is part of the core learning outcome; content knowledge that is not related to a core learning outcome is “content knowledge”, e.g., knowledge of business structures, key signatures, metal alloys, electrical codes, etc.)
Personal Responsibility Students will explore how to make honest and professional choices when helping others with their health. You will also take a close look at your own wellness habits to see how they impact your life, helping you build the integrity and personal safety skills needed for a successful career.
Teamwork By participating in team-based learning activities, students will recognize the importance of shared responsibility in a collective effort to promote a successful outcome based on predetermined goals.
Critical Thinking Skills Kinesiology majors will demonstrate critical thinking by identifying basic physiological principles and evaluating health data. Students will also synthesize scientific information to evaluate evidence-based practices.
Communication Skills In Kinesiology classes, you will learn to communicate clearly about health and movement science. You will practice writing, speaking, and presenting ideas to different people in professional settings. Also you will practice active listening to understand others to make sure your communication is clear and concise.
Physical Skills Students will demonstrate foundational physical skills by accurately modeling basic movement patterns and exercise techniques with proper biomechanical form to ensure safety. Students will also apply introductory physiological principles to execute specific fitness protocols, demonstrating the technical proficiency and coordination required for entry-level roles in the health industry. Students will practice and model basic exercises using correct form to make sure you and others stay safe. You will also use what you learn about the body to perform fitness protocols, building the hands-on skills needed for a job in the health industry.
Kinesiology Xfer Content Knowledge Competency in Kinesiology means demonstrating understanding of how the human body moves and functions. This includes understanding anatomy (muscles, bones, and joints), biomechanics (how forces affect movement), exercise physiology (how the body responds to physical activity), and motor learning (how we develop skills). It is understanding both the science behind movement and how to apply that knowledge practically—whether for sports performance, rehabilitation, fitness, or health promotion. Apply the principles of health and physical activity to modify behavior.
